Billing and cancellation

This page explains how Laidline LLC (Florida, United States) bills the plans you buy at checkout: Lite, Starter, Growth and Scale. It is a plain summary of the Customer Licence Agreement. If the two differ, the agreement governs. Enterprise is sold on a signed order, which sets its own billing terms.

Paying

  • Plans are paid in advance, monthly or yearly, by card, in US dollars.
  • Laidline LLC is the seller. Stripe processes the payment.
  • Prices are on the licensing page. They do not include taxes. Where tax applies, it is added at checkout and on each invoice.

Renewal

  • Your plan renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel, and we charge the card on file.
  • We change a price only for billing periods that start at least 60 days after we tell you. You can cancel before then at no cost.
  • If a renewal payment fails, we email you. Update your card on the Billing page.
  • Every licence has a 30-day grace period after the paid period ends. If no payment arrives by the end of it, the licence lapses. Marking and evidence carry on, but new marks use the shared key.

Cancelling

  • Cancel at any time on the Billing page, under Manage billing, or by email to billing@laidline.com.
  • Your plan runs to the end of the period you paid for. Nothing renews after that.
  • The 30-day grace period then runs as usual. Months your licence already unlocked stay unlocked.
  • Deleting your portal account does not cancel a subscription.

Refunds

We do not refund what you have paid, including the unused part of a month or year. These are the exceptions:

  • A defect we cannot fix within 30 days of your telling us about it (agreement clause 17.2).
  • An intellectual property claim that makes us end your order (clause 19.2).
  • A raised weight table that makes you leave: we refund whole months paid in advance after you leave (clause 8.6(c)).
  • Any refund the law requires.

Changing your plan

Change your plan on the Billing page, one change at a time.

  • Upgrade. A higher plan keeps your billing period and its end date. We invoice the difference for the rest of the period at once, and you pay that invoice at the link we give you. Your new licence is issued when it is paid.
  • Unpaid upgrade. If the invoice is still unpaid after 7 days, we cancel it and move you back to your previous plan with no charge. Your current licence is not touched. If a renewal at the higher price was paid in those 7 days, we settle the invoice with you instead.
  • Downgrade. A lower plan starts at the end of the period you paid for, with no refund or credit. You can withdraw the change until then.
  • Monthly to yearly. This applies at once if the charge to your card succeeds. The unused part of the month is credited, and your new year starts that day.
  • Yearly to monthly. This starts at the end of the paid year. You can withdraw the change until then.

Credits above your plan

Going over your plan never stops marking, and your marks stay private. You pay for the credits above your plan's monthly figure at your plan's rate, which is the same for monthly and yearly billing.

Plan Credits a month Rate per credit above that
Lite 15,000 $0.0124
Starter 150,000 $0.0042
Growth 1,000,000 $0.0025
Scale 10,000,000 $0.000625

Enterprise pays the rate its order states. On Free nothing is charged: above the allowance, new marks use the shared key for the rest of the month.

Each month stands alone, and the highest plan you actually paid for during it decides both the figure and the rate. Nothing carries over or pools across a year. There is no charge for the calendar month of your first paid plan or of a restart after a lapse. Cancelling and buying again before a lapse does not count as a start. The charge works like this:

  1. The 16th. We total the previous month from your usage reports and statements, and email you the credits, the rate and the amount the same day.
  2. Until the 23rd. You can dispute the amount by writing to billing@laidline.com. A good-faith dispute keeps the disputed part from being charged until it is settled.
  3. The 23rd. We charge a separate invoice to your card, on monthly and yearly billing alike. If the email went out after the 16th, the charge comes 7 days after the email. It is never added to a renewal invoice.
  4. If the charge fails. Your plan, your licence and your renewal are not affected. The amount stays owed.

An amount under 50 cents is waived. We do not charge it, we do not carry it to a later month, and there is nothing for you to do. You get no email about it.

Apart from any tax, we charge the amount we emailed, or we charge nothing. If your account with our payment processor holds a credit or an unpaid balance on the charge date, nothing is charged automatically: we hold the charge and review it by hand. Your balance stays as it was, and the amount stays owed until it is settled.

If we hold the charge for a credit and approve it, we charge your card in full, as a card payment with a receipt and no invoice, for the amount we emailed plus any tax. Your credit stays untouched. This needs the agreement of 2026-11-01 or later. A True-Up never moves onto your balance or a renewal invoice.

A report that reaches us after the 16th is settled the same way the next month. After your plan ends, credits above its monthly figure in a month your licence still unlocks are charged the same way too. The charge stops at the last month your licence unlocks.

Automatic charging applies if you accepted the agreement of 2026-10-31 or later. We review a charge under an earlier version by hand and take nothing from your card automatically.

If you turn usage reports off, send a signed usage statement for the previous month, one for each evidence log, to billing@laidline.com by the 15th, with the certificate chain of its signing key. We cannot verify it without the chain. We count the higher of a key's report and the sum of its statements.
